Mar 31 2026

ARK News.. The Kurdish National Council announced a series of political and organizational decisions in a statement issued on Monday, March 30, 2026, alongside discussions on key developments across Kurdish, regional, and international arenas.

Statement Text:

The General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council held its regular meeting on Saturday, March 29, 2026, during which it reviewed a number of political developments on the Kurdish, regional, and international levels, in light of the rapid transformations taking place in the region and their repercussions on the Kurdish issue in Syria.

The meeting concluded with the following positions and decisions:

First: The General Secretariat commended the positive atmosphere that prevailed during March, as a month of Kurdish national celebrations, particularly the widespread festivities marking Newroz, which reflected strong public participation and a peaceful expression of Kurdish identity.

The Council considered that celebrating this occasion at the presidential palace carries important political significance, as a step toward constitutional recognition of the identity and national rights of the Kurdish people in the country.

Second: The General Secretariat strongly condemned the repeated attacks carried out by Iran and its affiliated groups against the Kurdistan Region, most recently the targeting of the residence of Nechirvan Barzani, describing it as a blatant violation of the region’s sovereignty and security.

The Council affirmed its full solidarity with the people and leadership of the Kurdistan Region, stressing that such hostile acts will not undermine its stability or its pioneering democratic experience. In this context, the General Secretariat expressed its support for peaceful protest demonstrations called for by activists across Kurdish areas.

Third: The Council expressed its support for the struggle of the Kurdish people in Iranian Kurdistan to obtain their legitimate national rights, emphasizing that the solution lies in building a democratic, pluralistic, federal state based on equal partnership, and breaking with authoritarian policies to guarantee the rights of all components without discrimination or exclusion.

Fourth: The General Secretariat stressed the need to implement the January 29 agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces, noting that it would contribute to stability across the country.

At the same time, it emphasized the necessity of moving toward a comprehensive and fundamental resolution of the Kurdish issue and ending all discriminatory policies against the Kurdish people. It also considered that Decree No. (13) represents a positive step in principle; however, ensuring rights requires its further development, institutionalization, and warning within a permanent constitutional framework that explicitly guarantees Kurdish national rights.

Fifth: The meeting underscored the critical importance of Kurdish unity in Syria and activating the role of the joint Kurdish delegation to prevent any single party from monopolizing decisions on key national issues, in line with the complexity of the current stage.

Sixth: On the internal level, the General Secretariat adopted several organizational decisions, most notably:

1-Approving the completion of all necessary preparations to convene the Council’s Fifth National Congress as soon as possible.

2-Approving the accession of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party – Syria (Al-Party) to the Council after fulfilling the required conditions, including changing its name.

3-Emphasizing the activation of the Council’s offices and enhancing their political and field performance in line with the current stage and its challenges. General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council March 30, 2026
