The Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs has issued a directive to all officers and personnel of the Peshmerga forces regarding the disclosure of information to media outlets.

In a statement released on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the ministry announced that no member or officer is permitted to make statements to the media or publish information related to military movements and affairs without obtaining official approval from the relevant authorities within the ministry.

The General Directorate of Media and National Awareness at the ministry also reaffirmed, in a statement issued on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, that bringing media into military headquarters, filming defensive positions (trenches), and published on social media platforms are strictly prohibited.

It further stressed that providing any form of information or statements to the media by officers or Peshmerga personnel is forbidden, warning that violators will face severe military and administrative penalties.

The directorate called on citizens to report any pages or accounts publishing confidential information on behalf of “Peshmerga,” in order to take the necessary legal action against them.

According to the statement, media and awareness officers within military units, operations, and intelligence departments are required to closely monitor all movements of Peshmerga personnel and officers, as well as to disseminate and enforce these instructions.

The General Directorate of Media and National Awareness added: “We are closely monitoring social media platforms to detect any violations and will take military and legal measures in coordination with higher authorities.”
