ARK News.. Lebanon and Syria have signed an agreement to transfer convicted prisoners back to their home countries, following a meeting between Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Metri and Syrian Minister of Justice Mazhar al-Wais in Beirut.

Tariq Metri and Mazhar al-Wais confirmed in a press statement that the agreement provides for the transfer of convicted Syrian prisoners from Lebanese prisons to Syria. The two sides will later sign a separate agreement addressing detainees not covered by the current deal.

Syrian Minister Mazhar al-Wais also stated that the authorities are working to address the situation of detainees who have spent extended periods in prison, despite the complexities of the issue.

He added that the Syrian side is preparing a timeline to resolve the cases of detainees not included in the current agreement.
