Joshua Harris Conveys U.S. Appreciation to President Barzani
ARK New.. President Masoud Barzani received Joshua Harris, Acting U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, and Wendy Green, U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in Duhok.
During the meeting, Ambassador Harris conveyed the thanks and appreciation of the President and Government of the United States to President Barzani for his support and efforts in reaching the recent agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Harris also reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to supporting a strong Kurdistan Region within the framework of a federal Iraq.
President Barzani welcomed the delegation, expressing gratitude for the U.S. role in supporting the people of Kurdistan. He highlighted that without U.S. support in 1991, it would not have been possible to protect the gains of the uprising or establish the Kurdistan Regional Parliament and Government.
The two sides discussed the political process in Iraq in detail, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the constitution and allowing Iraqis to decide their country’s future based on partnership, balance, and consensus. They also welcomed recent dialogues in Baghdad aimed at shaping political mechanisms that ensure the interests of the Iraqi people and strengthen U.S.-Iraqi cooperation across various sectors.
