Final Communique of the Fourth Conference of the European Representation of the Kurdistan Writers Union Syria

ARK News.. The Kurdistan Writers Union Syria has issued a statement marking the conclusion of the Fourth Conference of its European Representation, during which a new administrative board was elected.
Below is the text of the final communiqué in professional English:
With the participation of a large number of Kurdish writers, intellectuals, and academics, as well as representatives of Kurdish political parties and writers’ unions from various parts of Kurdistan, the Fourth Conference of the European Representation of the Kurdistan Writers Union Syria was held in the German city of Düsseldorf on Saturday, December 27, 2025.
At the opening of the conference, journalist Dilbrin Shingali welcomed the attendees. This was followed by a minute of silence in honor of Kurdish martyrs and the performance of the Kurdish national anthem “Ey Reqîb.”
Writer Maria Abbas delivered the address of the European Representation, highlighting the most important milestones and activities of the Union at home and in the diaspora since its establishment on October 13, 2013, and noting the publication of 23 issues of the magazine Free Pen.
Subsequently, Sabri Rasool, Head of the European Representation, delivered a brief speech emphasizing the role of the Kurdish pen in spreading national awareness. He also reaffirmed the Union’s support for the Kurdish Unity Conference held in Qamishlo on April 26, 2025, stressing the importance of joint action in accordance with the provisions of the Qamishlo Document. This was followed by a congratulatory address to Shiva Barzani, Head of the Kurdistan Community, expressing support for Kurdish writers in the diaspora.
Writer and poet Kohar Mamo, Head of the Union of Kurdish Writers in the former Soviet Union states, praised the cooperation and bilateral relations between the two unions.
Hossam Ahmadi delivered a speech on behalf of the Tishk Studies Center, calling for greater rigor in academic research and intensified efforts to protect the Kurdish language. Sedxan Korj also addressed the conference in the Zazaki Kurdish dialect.
A speech was delivered by Siddiq Sharnakhi on behalf of the General Union of Kurdish Writers and Journalists in Syria, noting existing joint activities between the two unions and expressing continued willingness to pursue dialogue.
Sardar Jaf, Head of the Kurdistan Writers’ Union in the Diaspora, spoke on behalf of the Federation of Kurdistan Writers in the Diaspora, underscoring the importance of unifying writers’ roles and activities. He was followed by Jahid Kaplan, representing the Faqi Tayran Association.
Dr. Jasso Waziri addressed the conference on the importance of writing and its cultural role. In a brief intervention, university professor Dr. Taher Shreid stressed the need to establish a Kurdish cultural center dedicated to scientific studies and research, highlighting the central role of the Kurdish language in preserving identity and calling for practical solutions rather than empty slogans.
A congratulatory message was also delivered by Shimal Biran, representative of the Azadi Kurdistan Party (PAK).
At the conclusion of the opening session, the master of ceremonies thanked all participants and acknowledged congratulatory messages received from a number of Kurdish parties, organizations, and figures, the texts of which will be published later. These included messages from:

Following the opening session, a closed meeting was held for members of the Kurdistan–Syria Writers’ Union in Europe and newly affiliated members, with the direct online participation of Abdul Samad Mahmoud, Vice President of the Kurdistan–Syria Writers’ Union. During this session, a new administrative board for the European Representation was elected.
The newly elected board is expected to convene in the coming days to select the Head of the Representation, Deputy Head, and Secretary, as well as to form organizational offices, including Media, Relations, Activities, and other relevant departments.
