Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation Seeks to Establish Influential “Kurdish Lobby” Abroad
ARK News.. As part of efforts to strengthen the Kurdish cause internationally, the Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation has intensified its activities abroad, amid broad agreement among Kurds in the diaspora on the need to identify strengths and weaknesses and unite under the confederation’s umbrella to ensure greater influence in Western countries.
Educated and media-active Kurdish elites abroad aim to leverage shared priorities to serve the Kurdish cause, emphasizing that unity among Kurds from all four parts of Kurdistan is a cornerstone for any successful initiative.
In this context, Salam Kurda, head of the Kurdish diaspora in Sweden, recalled directives issued during the first confederation conference held in Erbil in 2021. He said:
"President Masoud Barzani clearly stated at that time: 'I do not want you to work as party members; I want you to work as a Kurdish diaspora, and to serve as ambassadors for the Kurds abroad.'"
Kurda added that the Kurdish diaspora does not discriminate based on political affiliation or region, and that the federation, confederation, and affiliated centers welcome all Kurds without exception.
The Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation has adopted the slogan of inclusive national work, opening its “big house” to all segments of the community, aiming to transform the Kurdish presence abroad into a powerful, influential lobby serving the interests of Kurdistan.
