ARK News.. Syria’s Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) affirmed that chemical-weapons remnants still present in several Syrian areas continue to pose a direct threat to civilians.

Mohammed Katuob, Syria’s permanent envoy to the OPCW, said the Organization’s fact-finding mission has resumed its work after months of suspension, while Syria’s voting rights within the OPCW remain withdrawn.

Katuob stated that the Syrian people have been victims of chemical-weapons use for 12 years, stressing that justice for the victims and accountability for those responsible form a core part of Syria’s position on this file.

He noted that the list of sites suspected of containing chemical remnants includes around 100 locations, 23 of which have been visited so far by national teams.

Katuob also emphasized Syria’s efforts to attract technical support and expertise from OPCW member states and praised the extensive cooperation already underway with many of them.
