Atlantic Council: Kurdistan Democratic Party to Be a Central Player in Forming Iraq’s Federal Government
ARK News.. The Washington-based Atlantic Council has highlighted the results of Iraq’s parliamentary elections and their expected impact on shaping the country’s next political phase, emphasizing the significant rise and pivotal role of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Baghdad.
In a detailed report, the Atlantic Council examined the strong performance of the KDP, which secured around 30 seats with more than one million votes, making it one of the three largest blocs in the new parliament.
According to the report, this victory will grant the KDP substantial negotiating power—both in the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government and in the coalition-building process for Iraq’s federal government in Baghdad.
The report stressed that the party will be “a central player that cannot be bypassed.”
