Kurdistan Ministry of Peshmerga Condemns Assault on Kurdish Youth for Raising Kurdistan Flag in Tuz Khurmatu
ARK News.. The Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs in the Kurdistan Regional Government strongly condemned the assault on a Kurdish youth in Tuz Khurmatu by a member of the Iraqi army, reportedly over carrying the flag of Kurdistan.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the Ministry said: “This behavior represents a clear violation of human rights and contradicts the principles of the Iraqi Constitution, which recognizes the Kurdistan flag as a symbol of the Region’s identity within Iraq’s federal and democratic system.”
The statement emphasized that the flag of Kurdistan is “a symbol of dignity and national belonging for the people of Kurdistan and must never be a reason for abuse or violence against citizens.”
The Ministry of Peshmerga called on legal authorities and the Joint Operations Command in Iraq to“take immediate action and open a serious investigation into the incident, holding those responsible accountable according to the law.”
It further stressed the importance of preventing such acts, which undermine peaceful coexistence among Iraq’s communities and harm national efforts aimed at strengthening stability.
The statement concluded: “Maintaining mutual respect between security forces and citizens is the foundation of security and stability. Such violations do not serve the public interest.”
