Al-Sharaa Urges Putin to Hand Over Bashar al-Assad
ARK News.. A senior Syrian diplomat revealed that President Ahmad al-Sharaa explicitly and repeatedly urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to hand over former Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad during his recent visit to Moscow.
Ashhad Salibi, Deputy Director of the Russia and Eastern Europe Department at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that al-Sharaa’s visit to Moscow aimed to reaffirm coordination and cooperation with all countries in line with Syria’s national interests.
Salibi added that all existing agreements with Moscow “will be restructured to serve the higher interests of the Syrian people.”
Regarding the issue of Assad’s extradition, Salibi confirmed that “President al-Sharaa asked President Putin explicitly — and more than once — to hand over Bashar al-Assad.” He noted that the Russian side “showed an understanding of the importance of achieving transitional justice in Syria.”
“Today, Syria is seeking to achieve national security and stability through the implementation of transitional justice as the foundation for comprehensive peace,” Salibi said, adding that both sides agreed to establish new legal mechanisms for cooperation on extradition cases and other pending judicial files.
He further noted that discussions also covered “a list of wanted individuals — including senior security and military officials currently residing in Moscow,” without providing further details.
