OPCW Moves to Expedite Closure of Syria’s Chemical Weapons File
ARK News.. Despite warnings that the process would be “complex and comprehensive,” the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has decided to accelerate the closure of Syria’s chemical weapons file.
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the OPCW, Vladimir Tarabrin, announced that the organization’s Executive Council, during its 110th session, adopted a decision “aimed at expediting the closure of the Syrian chemical weapons file.”
Tarabrin stated that “a resolution has been adopted that will help speed up the process of closing Syria’s chemical weapons file within the OPCW.”
He noted, however, that the effort remains “a complex and comprehensive process that will require significant financial resources, logistical capacity, and technical expertise.”
The Russian envoy emphasized that “strict adherence to all procedures and provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention is essential in addressing this issue.”
