Masrour Barzani Meets French Ambassador to Iraq Patrick Durel
ARK News.. Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Patrick Durel, the French Ambassador to Iraq, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, for talks that focused on the ongoing discussions to form the new Kurdistan Regional Government and the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections.
The meeting, attended by Yann Prémel, the French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, also addressed the latest political developments in Iraq and the region, emphasizing the importance of resolving outstanding disputes between Erbil and Baghdad.
Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to maintaining strong relations with the federal government on the basis of constitutional rights, federal principles, and fair budget allocations. He expressed hope that the recent agreement on the export of Kurdistan’s oil would pave the way for a comprehensive settlement of pending issues.
Ambassador Durel praised the KRG’s ongoing reform programs and its initiatives aimed at environmental protection, commending the government’s commitment to modernization and transparency. He also referred to the upcoming visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, scheduled for December 2025.
Both sides exchanged views on the formation of the new Kurdistan government and the political climate ahead of Iraq’s next parliamentary elections, underscoring France’s continued support for stability and democratic progress in the country.
