Nechirvan Barzani: Syria Cannot Be Governed Centrally
ARK News.. Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani affirmed that Syria is not composed of a single group but of multiple communities, and therefore, it cannot be governed through a centralized system.
Speaking during a session of the annual MERI Forum titled “The Kurdistan Region’s Strategies Amid Regional and Global Turmoil”, President Barzani said: “Realistically speaking, what is happening in Syria represents the last opportunity.
The international community must step in to help move Syria forward — all Syrians deserve a better life.” He added: “There is a major point of disagreement in our vision compared to Damascus — Syria cannot be governed in a centralized manner.”
President Barzani explained: “I discussed this matter with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, and I told him clearly: Syria is not composed of a single component; it consists of Kurds, Alawites, Druze, Christians — all are parts of Syria.”
He concluded: “We in the Kurdistan Region do not support centralization, and we have conveyed this position to President al-Sharaa.”
