Faisal Youssef: Newroz Is a Symbol of Freedom, Dignity, and Renewal of Life
ARK News.. The spokesperson for the Kurdish National Council (KNC) in Syria affirmed that the transitional administration’s failure to recognize Newroz as an official holiday — despite its profound symbolism and deep connection to the Kurdish people’s identity and culture — represents a continuation of exclusionary policies and a deliberate disregard for an essential component of the Syrian people.
In a post on his Facebook page, Faisal Youssef, the KNC spokesperson in Syria, wrote:
“The Kurds have lived on their ancestral land since the establishment of the Syrian state, contributing to its construction and defense. Despite decades of denial and systematic targeting by Ba’athist regimes, they have remained steadfast in their pursuit of genuine national partnership and their struggle for legitimate national rights within a democratic, decentralized Syria that guarantees equality for all its citizens.”
Youssef added: “Newroz is not merely a folkloric celebration; it is a symbol of freedom, dignity, and the renewal of life. Its flame will continue to burn brightly, no matter the attempts to marginalize or erase its meaning.”
