Kurdish National Council Parties: The Distinct Identity of Syria’s Core Components Must Be Respected
ARK News.. With the attendance of Mohammed Ismail, President of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) in Syria, the KNC parties held their monthly meeting in the city of Qamishlo. The meeting discussed the latest developments on the Syrian scene in general, as well as an evaluation of the Council’s performance during the past period.
In an exclusive statement, Ne’mat Dawood, a member of the KNC’s Executive Committee, said that participants stressed the need for the Council to adopt a clear position regarding the upcoming Syrian parliamentary elections, emphasizing the importance of political clarity at this sensitive stage.
According to Dawood, the meeting also addressed the recent presidential decree listing official national holidays in Syria, which failed to mention Newroz and other cultural celebrations. Attendees viewed this decision as a continuation of the Ba’ath Party’s approach, arguing that it does not serve Syria’s future or its ethnic and cultural diversity.
The meeting reaffirmed that respecting the unique identity of Syria’s essential components — including the Kurdish people — is the foundation of any just political solution
