Masrour Barzani Inaugurates New Strategic Projects in Zakho Independent Administration
ARK News.. In celebration of the fourth anniversary of the establishment of the Zakho Independent Administration, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated a series of new strategic projects, marking another milestone in the area’s development.
On September 21, 2021, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) officially elevated Zakho from a district within Duhok Province to an independent administration, aiming to improve services and governance for local residents.
Since its creation, Zakho has seen tangible progress in development efforts. Authorities have announced a total of 321 projects with a combined budget of 370 billion IQD, broken down as follows:
315 projects completed in full
26 projects still under implementation
These initiatives were distributed across the administration’s areas:
293 projects in Zakho city center
107 projects in Batifa town
29 classified as major strategic projects
The projects have focused on key sectors crucial for enhancing infrastructure and public services, including:
Roads and transportation
Education
Healthcare
Tourism
Electricity
Water resources
Government institutions
Agriculture
Investment
The establishment of the Zakho Independent Administration — followed by this wave of project implementation — represents a pivotal step in strengthening local development, improving citizens’ quality of life, and solidifying Zakho’s role as one of the Kurdistan Region’s leading examples of effective local governance.
