Kurdistan Region President Receives Delegation of Assyrians from the United States
ARK New.. The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, welcomed, on Sunday, a delegation of Assyrians from the United States led by Sam Darmo, head of the Assyrian Foundation for Justice. The delegation also included prominent Assyrian figures from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region who now reside in the U.S.
Discussions focused on the conditions of Assyrians in Iraq, in general, and in the Kurdistan Region in particular, as well as their role, presence, and future within the region.
The visiting delegation expressed appreciation for the spirit of coexistence and acceptance among the diverse communities of the Kurdistan Region, and thanked the region for providing support and protection since 2003, serving as a haven for Assyrians and other groups.
President Barzani welcomed the visit, describing it as important and necessary for fostering cooperation. He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s consistent policy of safeguarding minority communities and promoting a culture of coexistence, while commending the contributions of Assyrians and other groups in all aspects of life in the region.
The meeting also addressed the participation of the Assyrian diaspora and other communities abroad, particularly in the United States.
