President Barzani at the Opening of "Peshmerga Street" in Paris: A Historic and Momentous Day
ARK News.. A ceremony was held in Paris’s André Citroën Park to inaugurate “Peshmerga Street,” with the attendance of President Masoud Barzani.
Speaking ahead of the event during a meeting with Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo on Friday, September 5, 2025, President Barzani described the occasion as “a historic and highly significant day,” adding that the dedication is “a powerful symbol and a testament to strengthened relations.”
“The naming of a place after the Peshmerga reflects France’s care and respect for the Kurdish people,” Barzani stated.
Mayor Hidalgo emphasized the importance of the occasion for Paris, saying, “Welcoming President Barzani is a profoundly meaningful moment for us. The Peshmerga and President Barzani fought for the freedom of all.”
She continued: “President Barzani has played a pivotal role in the Kurdish people’s struggle, and we are deeply grateful to the Peshmerga.”
“Peshmerga Street” in Paris
President Barzani arrived in Paris on Thursday, accompanied by a delegation that included Kurdistan Region’s representative to France, Ali Dolmari, and Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw, to attend the inauguration of the new street.
Paris Municipality announced: “The Peshmerga now have a place on the map of Paris, overlooking the stunning scenery of the River Seine.”
It added: “The Peshmerga are a symbol of the Kurdish people’s sacrifices and resilience in pursuit of freedom and legitimate rights.”
The dedication of the “Peshmerga Park” and “Peshmerga Street” serves as a tribute to the Kurdish people and their Peshmerga forces for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, their defense of freedom, and their commitment to human dignity.
The initiative holds particular significance for the Kurdish people, marking international recognition of their struggle and history, while also fostering stronger political and cultural ties between Erbil and Paris.
