Germany: Passing of Kurdish Filmmaker Kamal Sido, Who Documented Zanzibar-Led Kurdish Revolution

ARK News.. Renowned Kurdish cinematographer Kamal Sido passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, in Warendorf, Germany, at the age of 86.
Biography Highlights:
Born in 1939 in Afrin. Imprisoned in Damascus in 1959 for his Kurdish nationalist activism alongside Osman Sabri and Dr. Noraddin Zaza.
Migrated to Germany in 1961, where he joined the Kurdish Students’ Association. Studied cinematography in Germany and went on to work for 35 years as a filmmaker with German broadcaster WDR, both domestically and internationally.
In 1970 and 1972, he visited the Kurdistan Region and produced two documentary films about the Kurdish revolution led by Mullah Mustafa Barzani.
Kamal Sido is remembered as a pioneering voice who used film to document and preserve the history and struggle of the Kurdish people.
