Over 300 Detainees Released from Syrian Prisons on Eid al-Adha

Jun 06 2025

ARK News.. The new Syrian government has released more than 300 detainees from various prisons across the country in a gesture coinciding with the Eid al-Adha holiday. The amnesty covered individuals held on a range of charges, including former military officers.

One of the most notable releases took place at Hama Central Prison, where 96 detainees were freed in a single batch. The group included 30 individuals from Latakia, 17 from Tartous, 20 from Hama and its surrounding countryside, while the remaining detainees hailed from various other provinces across Syria.

The move followed a series of field visits by the Public Prosecution Office to several detention facilities, as part of an initiative to expedite the review of detainee files—particularly in cases where individuals had been held beyond the legal detention period without a formal trial.
