Azadi Campaign Issues Statement on Kurdish Language Day
ARK News.. On the occasion of Kurdish Language Day, the Azadi Campaign released a statement reaffirming the central role of the Kurdish language as a cornerstone of the Kurdish people's cultural identity.
The full statement reads as follows:
“On this day, as we celebrate Kurdish Language Day, the Azadi Campaign reaffirms the significance of the Kurdish language as a fundamental pillar of the Kurdish people’s cultural identity—a bridge connecting generations and carrying the memory of a long struggle for dignity, recognition, and freedom.
For decades, the Kurdish language has suffered from systematic marginalization and exclusion in Syria, under policies that denied millions of Kurds their natural right to learn in their mother tongue and to freely express their culture. As Syria enters a new phase in its search for a just political solution, we believe that recognizing Kurdish as one of the country’s official languages in the constitution is not merely a cultural demand, but a national and human right. It lays the foundation for a pluralistic society that respects all its components.”
“Constitutional recognition of the Kurdish language is part of the broader path toward transitional justice and the safeguarding of linguistic and cultural rights. It reflects a vision for a democratic, civil, and diverse Syria, where all citizens live in dignity and equality.”
“On this occasion, we renew our call to all political and civil forces—Syrian and international—to support this just demand, to work toward eliminating all forms of linguistic and cultural discrimination, and to ensure that the Kurdish language is granted its rightful place in the spheres of education, media, and public administration.”
Happy Kurdish Language Day to our people.
And may our language draw ever closer to recognition and freedom.”
