ARK News.. Health authorities in the Kurdistan Region have reported the first confirmed death from hemorrhagic fever in the city of Duhok.

Dr. Sakvan Suleiman, Director of Azadi General Hospital in Duhok, announced on Saturday, May 10, 2025, that “at approximately 5:30 a.m., the first fatal case of hemorrhagic fever was recorded in the city.”

According to Dr. Suleiman, the deceased was a 45-year-old woman from the town of Sheladize in the Amide district of Duhok Province. She was a livestock herder and had been admitted to the hospital three days earlier with symptoms suspected to be linked to hemorrhagic fever.

“We conducted the necessary tests in our labs and sent the samples to Baghdad,” he said, noting that test results received on the evening of Friday, May 9, confirmed the infection. The patient passed away a few hours later.

Dr. Suleiman confirmed that no members of the woman’s family have shown signs of infection. He also noted that three individuals who visited the hospital two weeks ago with suspected symptoms tested negative after undergoing the required medical examinations.
