Nechirvan Barzani and Thomas Seiler Discuss the Situation in Syria

ARK News.. The President of the Kurdistan Region and the Head of the European Union Delegation to Iraq discussed the situation in Syria and the broader region, exchanging views on the political and economic conditions in Iraq and the surrounding area.

On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Ambassador Thomas Seiler, Head of the European Union Delegation to Iraq, along with his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed EU–Kurdistan Region relations and explored ways to enhance mutual cooperation and coordination. They also exchanged views on the current political and economic developments in Iraq and the wider region.

President Barzani emphasized the importance of the EU’s role in supporting stability and called for continued strengthening of relations between the EU, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region—especially in the fields of development, human rights, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange.

Ambassador Seiler reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, expressing appreciation for the Region’s role in promoting stability and peaceful coexistence. He also conveyed the EU’s interest in expanding areas of cooperation with the Kurdistan Region.

The situation in Syria and the wider region was also a key focus of the meeting.
