16 Arrested in Homs Over Mass Graves of Civilian Victims
ARK News.. Authorities in Syria’s Homs province have arrested 16 individuals in the village of al-Mukhtariya, suspected of involvement in mass burials of civilians during the country’s conflict years.
According to an official statement from the Homs Governorate Media Directorate, the suspects are former members of the "National Defense Forces" militia, active in the region since 2012. Investigations revealed that many of the detainees were involved in battles across Homs city and its countryside and are implicated in serious violations, including massacres against civilians in various areas.
The statement added that the detainees have criminal records involving violence and homicide, and several of them confessed during interrogation to participating in the burial of civilian victims in mass graves.
Authorities also confirmed the discovery of multiple mass graves in the village of al-Mashtal and other nearby locations, as part of ongoing investigations.
