Masrour Barzani Discusses Latest Developments in Syria with U.S. Congressional Delegation

ARK News.. Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani expressed his gratitude to the United States for its continued support of the Kurdistan Region, while also highlighting the reform initiatives undertaken by his government.

On Sunday, April 13, 2025, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received a delegation from the United States Congress, which included Adam Smith, Michael Baumgartner, Sara Jacobs, Wesley Bell, and George Whiteside, along with their accompanying staff.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the overall situation in Iraq and the wider region and discussed ways to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States.

The visiting members of Congress provided an overview of the objectives of their visit, reaffirming the strategic importance of the Kurdistan Region both within Iraq and the broader region. They reiterated the United States’ commitment to supporting the Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Barzani thanked the United States for its unwavering support and assistance, and spoke about the reforms implemented by the Kurdistan Regional Government, particularly in the sectors of energy, electricity, and banking.

The talks also touched on the urgent need to form the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government as soon as possible.

Other topics discussed included relations between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, the importance of resuming oil exports from the region, as well as the latest developments in Syria and the peace process in Turkey.
