Masrour Barzani Issues Statement on the 45th Anniversary of the Genocide Against the Feyli Kurds

ARK News.. Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani issued a statement today, Friday, April 4, 2025, marking the 45th anniversary of the genocide against the Feyli Kurds. In his statement, he emphasized the need for the Iraqi government to fully uphold its legal and constitutional responsibilities, particularly in ensuring fair and just compensation for the families of the victims of this genocide, as well as other crimes of mass extermination. He also called for the restitution of their confiscated rights and properties.

The full statement reads as follows:

"Today, we commemorate the anniversary of a heinous crime that targeted an integral part of our people—the systematic campaigns of genocide against the Feyli Kurds. These crimes were perpetrated by successive Iraqi regimes over multiple phases, reaching their peak brutality in 1980. Without any wrongdoing other than their ethnic identity, the former Iraqi regime forcibly expelled and deported hundreds of thousands of Feyli Kurds from Iraq, while thousands more were forcibly disappeared. The regime went even further by seizing their assets and properties and stripping them of their Iraqi citizenship.

On this solemn occasion, as we mark the 45th anniversary of this tragedy, we once again stress the urgent need for the Iraqi government to fulfill its legal and constitutional obligations in full. This includes delivering fair and just compensation to the families of the victims of this genocide and other acts of mass extermination, as well as restoring their usurped rights and properties.

Glory to the pure souls of the Feyli Kurdish martyrs and all the martyrs of Kurdistan."
