ARK News.. On Saturday, multiple Syrian cities are witnessing celebrations marking the 14th anniversary of the revolution, which culminated in the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024, and the birth of a new leadership in Syria.

In Damascus' Umayyad Square, crowds from the capital and other provinces began gathering early in the morning in preparation for the first commemoration of the revolution since the fall of the ousted regime, according to the SANA news agency.

The Damascus governorate has organized special artistic events for the occasion. In an official invitation, it stated: “The revolution’s supporters invite you to join the ongoing celebrations of the blessed Syrian revolution anniversary, taking place today at 8:30 PM in Umayyad Square due to high daytime temperatures.”

According to SANA, public security forces have been deployed in Umayyad Square to ensure citizens' safety during the festivities. The Syrian Air Force also took part, with helicopters dropping flowers over the crowds.

Security forces were also present at Sabaa Bahrat Square in Idlib to maintain order. Participants decorated the square with portraits of fallen revolutionaries in honor of their sacrifices, sources reported.

In March 2011, the first chants for freedom and dignity echoed, evolving into a nationwide uprising and then a prolonged struggle against the Assad regime. Syrians paid a heavy price in blood, destruction, and displacement. Now, after all those years, they are celebrating the dawn of a new era—many of them for the first time in their hometowns, which they have returned to despite the devastation.
