OCHA: Over 800,000 Displaced Syrians Return to Their Home Regions
ARK News.. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that more than 825,000 displaced Syrians have returned to their original areas since December 2024.
In a report released on Thursday, February 13, 2025, OCHA noted that movement from displacement camps remains limited, with approximately two million people still displaced in northwestern Syria. Most of them live in overcrowded sites and fragile tents, exacerbating their humanitarian situation.
An OCHA official highlighted that over 60% of refugees wish to visit Syria before making a final decision on returning permanently.
According to UN statistics, more than 13 million Syrians were forcibly displaced from their towns and cities due to the war. Currently, there are 7.2 million internally displaced persons and 6.5 million refugees and asylum seekers in various countries.
