According to the U.S. State Department, the two officials "discussed developments in Syria, highlighting the need for governance that includes all factions and the necessity of preventing the country from being used as a base for terrorism or as a threat to neighboring nations."
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that the talks covered the situation in Syria, noting that Abdel Atty reiterated "Egypt's full support for the Syrian people."
Both ministers underscored "the importance of respecting Syria's unity and territorial integrity and the need to initiate a political process that does not exclude any component of Syrian society, ensuring that Syria becomes a source of stability in the region."
