President of the KNC Visits Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Al-Jazira and Euphrates

ARK News.. Mohammad Ismail, President of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) in Syria, accompanied by a delegation from the KNC's Eastern Hasaka branch, visited, On Monday, February 10, 2025, Archbishop Moor Maurice Amsih, the Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Al-Jazira and the Euphrates, in the city of Hasaka.

During the meeting, Ismail outlined the KNC’s political vision for Syria’s future, emphasizing the importance of preserving coexistence and civil peace among the region’s diverse communities. He highlighted that these communities complement and rely on one another.

Ismail also shed light on the shared history of the region’s ethnic and religious groups, noting that certain political policies have created divisions between them. "We are now working to break this ice," he stated.

Furthermore, he criticized the Assad regime for exploiting the region’s resources while impoverishing its people. Despite existing concerns among citizens, he expressed optimism about the future.

"The Syria of the future must be a civil state that embraces multiple ethnicities, religions, and sects while maintaining neutrality towards all faiths," Ismail concluded.

For his part, Archbishop Amsih reaffirmed the historic ties between the Syriac and Kurdish peoples, stressing the need for a secular and civil state that accommodates all Syrians, regardless of their backgrounds.

"We have lived as brothers for centuries, and no political agenda has succeeded in sowing discord between us," the Archbishop remarked.
