
Syrian President Shar’i Departs Turkey, Praises Ankara’s Support for Syrian Cause
ARK News.. Syrian President Ahmed Shar’i departed Turkey on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, following an official visit during which he met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation across various sectors.
Shar’i emphasized the deep ties between Syria and Turkey, commending Ankara’s stance in support of the Syrian cause, which he described as a “model of brotherhood between the two nations.”
He expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality he received during his visit and reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to strengthening coordination with Turkey on political, economic, and security matters to serve mutual interests and address upcoming challenges.
For his part, Erdogan highlighted a shared vision between Ankara and the Syrian administration on key issues, reaffirming Turkey’s readiness to support the reconstruction of Syrian cities and infrastructure.
The Turkish president welcomed Shar’i’s visit to Ankara, stating that the Syrian people have endured 13 years of oppression and brutal massacres, including chemical attacks.
Describing Shar’i’s visit as "historic," Erdogan viewed it as the beginning of a new era of lasting friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He also noted that Turkish institutions have been actively working for nearly two months to elevate relations with Syria to a strategic level once again.
Erdogan further stated that he discussed political developments with Shar’a, emphasizing Turkey’s commitment to fostering an inclusive Syrian administration that represents the will of all Syrians during this critical phase.
