Kurdistan Region President and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Discuss Developments in Syria
ARK News.. Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Daniel Rubinstein, the Acting U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, on the morning of Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
During the meeting, both sides discussed U.S. relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, Erbil-Baghdad relations, the situation in Kurdistan, the outcomes of the parliamentary elections, efforts to form the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet, the unification and reform of the Peshmerga forces, developments in Syria, and regional affairs.
Ambassador Rubinstein reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to continuing its support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. In response, President Nechirvan Barzani expressed gratitude for the U.S. assistance, particularly in counterterrorism efforts.
Both parties emphasized the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region and working towards lasting peace. They also exchanged views on the conditions of the Yazidis in Sinjar, as well as the situation of Christians and other minority communities in the Nineveh Plains.
