Mohammed Ismail Elected President of the Kurdish National Council in Syria

ARK News.. The Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) elected, on Thursday, January 2, 2024, Mohammed Ismail, Secretary of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria, as its new president. He succeeds Suleiman Oso, whose six-month term has concluded.

During its fourth congress held in late 2023, the council introduced amendments to its internal charter and structure, adopting a new mechanism requiring a change in the council's presidency every six months.

The election process for selecting the new president took place in the city of Qamishli, in Syrian Kurdistan, marking the end of Suleiman Oso’s tenure as president.
