France: Political process is the only way to achieve lasting peace in Syria
ARK News.. France has reiterated that a political solution is the only way to achieve lasting peace in Syria, stressing that recent clashes underline the Syrian regime's weakness, which stems from its continued refusal to engage in the political process.
During a United Nations Security Council meeting on Syria, French Ambassador Nicolas de Rivière said that France was "closely following the latest developments in Syria, particularly in the northwest" and called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law.
The French Ambassador stressed that France has "repeatedly reiterated that a credible political process remains the only way to achieve lasting peace in Syria".
De Rivière added that the recent clashes demonstrate the fragility of the regime, which is directly linked to its continued refusal to commit to the political process. He stressed that "this process is the only way to achieve the peace that the Syrian people seek. It is time for the Syrian regime to seize this opportunity".
