Jordan, Greece and Cyprus stress the priority of supporting Syrian refugees
ARK News.. Jordan's King Abdullah II, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed the priority of supporting Syrian refugees and pursuing a political solution to the Syrian crisis in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
According to Jordan's Petra News Agency, during the fourth Jordanian-Cypriot-Greek trilateral summit held in Nicosia on Thursday, November 28, the three nations emphasized in a joint statement their "commitment to the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria."
The statement underlined "the need to make progress towards a political solution to the conflict in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254".
It also expressed the three countries' support for the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, and his efforts within the Geneva process.
The statement highlighted the exacerbation of an already dire humanitarian situation due to the conflict in Lebanon, which has led to the displacement of both Syrians and Lebanese into Syria.
It emphasized the importance of sustained and targeted early recovery efforts aimed at improving livelihoods, providing access to essential health services, rehabilitating shelter and strengthening community resilience.
