ARK News… Protests denouncing the PYD administration’s decision to price wheat continue in the cities and towns of Syrian Kurdistan and other areas under its control, especially in the cities of Amuda and Ad-Derbasiya in Syrian Kurdistan.

For the third day in a row, the people of the “peasants and growers” of the city of Amuda in Syrian Kurdistan went out, on Tuesday 28/5/2024), in a protest, demanding an adjustment to wheat pricing.

Protesters in the city of Amouda raised banners reading: “The nation only sleeps on its heads, do not trample them with your sandals - our livelihood is a red line - we watered our wheat with our blood and we do not sell it for free - the enemy kills us with bullets, and you kill us with your decisions.”

For the second day in a row, on Tuesday, 28/5/2024), the people of the “peasants and farmers” of the city of Derbasiya went out in mass protests, denouncing the PYD administration’s decision regarding the price of wheat for the year 2024.

The protesters raised signs reading, “The decision is an insult to the blood of the martyrs - the unjust decision must be reconsidered.”

In a statement, one of the farmers confirmed that the PYD administration, with this decision, is asking us to leave our homeland, and he addressed a special word to Mazloum Kobani, commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, when he said: “I wore the shawl (Arab outfit) intentionally, because I know that you love the Arab component. Unfortunately, we have reached this stage.”

The Agriculture and Irrigation Authority of the PYD Administration said on Tuesday, 28/5/2024) in a press conference that the wheat purchase price (31) cents will not change and the price will remain as specified.

On Monday, dozens of farmers in the city of Raqqa denounced, during an angry demonstration, the wheat price set by the “PYD administration.”

Farmers in the town of al-Izba in the northern countryside of Deir Ez-Zour also participated, on Monday, in a massive demonstration, in which protesters denounced the PYD administration’s decision regarding wheat pricing for the year 2024.

Sources revealed that a portion of the trucks loaded with wheat returned during the past two days from the Jalabiya silos in the countryside of Kobani, Syrian Kurdistan, in protest against the wheat price set by the PYD administration.

On Sunday, 26/5/2024, the PYD administration set the price of a kilo of wheat at (31) cents, subject to the numerical grading system for the 2024 season, noting that in previous years the price of wheat was as follows: in 2023 it was 43 cents, and in 2022 it was 55. Cents, this is a major decline and has serious consequences for the residents of the region.
