For the third day in a row... Peasants and farmers of the city of Amouda denounce the decision of the PYD administration
ARK News… Protests denouncing the PYD administration’s decision to price wheat continue in the cities and towns of Syrian Kurdistan and other areas under its control, especially in the city of Amouda in Syrian Kurdistan.
For the third day in a row, the people of the “peasants and growers” of the city of Amouda in Syrian Kurdistan went out, on Tuesday, 28/5/2024, in a protest, demanding an adjustment to wheat pricing.
Protesters in the city of Amouda raised banners reading: “The nation only sleeps on its heads, do not trample them with your sandals - our livelihood is a red line - we watered our wheat with our blood and we do not sell it for free - the enemy kills us with bullets, and you kill us with your decisions.”
On Monday, 27/5/2024), the people of the “peasants and farmers” of the city of Ad-Derbasiya went out in mass protests, denouncing the PYD administration’s decision regarding the price of wheat for the year 2024, raising banners that read (No to starvation - you killed our children’s dreams - our labors and our children’s livelihoods are a red line - we watered them) Our wheat is with our blood, we do not sell it for free.
On Monday, dozens of farmers in the city of Raqqa denounced, during an angry demonstration, the wheat price set by the “PYD administration.”
Farmers in the town of al-Izba in the northern countryside of Deir Ez-Zour also participated, on Monday, in a massive demonstration, in which protesters denounced the PYD administration’s decision regarding wheat pricing for the year 2024.
Sources revealed that a portion of the trucks loaded with wheat returned during the past two days from the Jalabiya silos in the countryside of Kobani, Syrian Kurdistan, in protest against the wheat price set by the PYD administration.
On Sunday, 26/5/2024), the PYD administration set the price of a kilo of wheat at (31) cents, subject to the numerical grading system for the 2024 season, noting that in previous years the price of wheat was as follows: in 2023 it was 43 cents, and in 2022 it was 55. Cents, this is a major decline and has serious consequences for the residents of the region.
The PYD administration sold fertilizer to farmers during the spraying season (2023-2024) at the following prices:
- 1 ton of urea fertilizer: 900 US dollars.
- 1 ton of black fertilizer: 700 US dollars.
- 1 ton of red fertilizer: 750 US dollars.
- 1 ton of Saudi compound fertilizer costs (790) US dollars.
Also, the fuel “diesel” crisis created by the PYD administration, during the planting season, led to an increase in the price of plowing and cultivating the lands, as the price of wages for plowing reached between (30 and 35) US dollars, due to the high price of fuel. The PYD administration raised the price of the material “Subsidized diesel from 525 to 2,100 Syrian pounds, and “free” diesel from 1,700 to 4,600 Syrian pounds.
