Farmers to the PYD administration: No to tightening the screws, raise the price of the wheat bill, and do justice to the farmer

ARK News… In continuation of the policy of starving citizens and restricting them in the areas under its control, for the third year in a row, the PYD administration set the price of wheat at less than the previous year, as it now shared the farmers’ livelihood without making any effort.

At the beginning of each new agricultural year, “the planting season,” the PYD administration exploits Kurdish farmers for the prices of seeds, fertilizer, and fuel, and sells these materials to them at exorbitant prices in US dollars, as the cost of cultivating one hectare of land during the beginning of the planting season (2023-2024) is about 100 US dollars.

With the advent of the harvest season (wheat - barley), instead of compensating farmers and encouraging them to plant, the PYD administration divided the agricultural crop equally with them and set the price of a kilo of wheat at a low price of (31) cents to the US dollar, noting that in previous years the price of wheat was as follows: In 2023, it was 43 cents, and in 2022, it was 55 cents. This is a major decline and has serious consequences for the residents of the region.

The decision of the PYD administration regarding the price of wheat for the year 2024 had a negative impact on all farmers in Syrian Kurdistan, as the farmer Muhammad Ali said about this matter in a post on his page on the social networking site (Facebook): “The purchase price of wheat by the Autonomous Administration for the current season 2024 “It is not compatible or compatible with the farmer’s toil and effort and the expenses he made for his land.”

Muhammad Ali added that, with a simple mathematical process, the farmer are the losers, “Raise the price of the wheat bill, and do justice to the farmer.”

For his part, the farmer, Fayek Sino, said: “The price for purchasing wheat from farmers is an end to the person who exists and clings to his land. Yes, these are the pressures. Before setting the price, the price of a bundle of bread, transportation, etc., was raised.”

The Kurdish politician and academic, Dr. Abdul Rahman Khalil, described the PYD administration’s decision to price wheat as the bad decision to steal people’s livelihoods, and said: “(the PYD Cader) decision to use the weapon of hunger) to fight the remaining remnants of our people.”

The Kurdish politician added: “The decision (double democratic theft?!). Raising the price of a loaf of bread, and lowering the price of the crop, pressure generates an explosion?”

The farmer, Monir Khani, addressed the PYD administration regarding the wheat pricing: “When you raise the price of bread and lower the price of wheat, and your price is less than the Syrian regime’s price, and the regime refuses to receive wheat from Hasaka Governorate at the price it set, this confirms that your wheat pricing was imposed on you by the Syrian regime to displace what was left of the population.” "Kurdish people, the game is up, you metaphysical philosopher."

The farmer, Asim al-Ahmad, said about pricing wheat at 31 cents: “Pricing wheat at this price means the end of the last nail in the coffin of the farmer who has no choice but to say, ‘There is no power nor strength except with God.’”

The PYD administration sold fertilizer to farmers during the spraying season (2023-2024) at the following prices:

Urea fertilizer: 900 US dollars.

Black fertilizer: 700 US dollars.

Red fertilizer: 750 US dollars.

- Saudi compound fertilizer costs (790) US dollars.

Also, the fuel “diesel” crisis created by the PYD administration, during the planting season, led to an increase in the price of plowing and cultivating land, as the price of wages for plowing reached between (30 and 35) US dollars, due to the high price of fuel, as it raised the price of “subsidized diesel.” “From 525 Syrian pounds to 2,100, and “Free” from 1,700 to 4,600 Syrian pounds.
