Nechirvan Barzani and Raisi confirm the strengthening of bilateral relations

ARK News... In response to an official invitation from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, arrived in Tehran, on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

The President of the Region is accompanied on his visit by a delegation that includes the Vice President, the Minister of Interior, the Head of the Presidential Office, and a number of Kurdistan Region officials.

The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, on Monday morning, met in Tehran with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi.

A statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency said, “During the meeting, the two sides stressed strengthening relations between Iran, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region on the basis of good neighborliness and common interests and raising the level of trade exchange and economic relations, in addition to praising the long-standing and historical relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kurdistan Region.”

The Iranian President expressed "the thanks and appreciation of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Kurdistan Region for the facilities and assistance it provides to Iranian visitors who go to the holy shrines in southern Iraq, during their passage through the Kurdistan Region."

For his part, the President of the Kurdistan Region thanked "Iran's support and assistance to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region."

In another aspect of the meeting, the two sides stressed the necessity and importance of "continuing joint coordination and cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to protect security and stability in the region."
