Twenty days and the PYD administration holds four members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party-Syria and the Kurdish National Council hostage
ARK News… The PYD administration continues its policy of silencing dissent and suppressing facts in the cities and towns of Syrian Kurdistan, tightening the noose around Kurdish journalists. Armed PYD elements abducted several journalists and members of the Kurdish National Council in Syria and the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria as hostages until the release of (Suleiman Ahmed), a PKK journalist who was detained in the Kurdistan Region about a year ago.
This is not the first time that the PYD administration has abducted journalists, activists, and members of the Kurdish National Council in Syria and the Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria as hostages. On 17/7/2021, were abducted:
-Journalist Barzan Hussein, correspondent for ARK Media Foundation.
-Journalist Mohammed Saleh Ahmed, former correspondent for Kurdistan TV and founding member of the Kurdistan Journalists Union -Syria and currently a member of the PDK-S Central Committee.
Mohammed Ayo, a member of the advisory board of the Kurdistan Democratic Party -Syria.
Their abduction as hostages was a response to the arrest of a group of PYD administration affiliates in the Kurdistan Region. Because these PYD affiliates were detained for 112 days in the Kurdistan Region, the PYD administration abducted journalists and members of the Syrian Kurdistan Democratic Party Syria for 112 days at that time.
Armed PYD elements abducted four members of the Kurdish National Council and the Syrian Democratic Party from the towns of Girke Lage and Derik in Syrian Kurdistan since March 31, 2024, and their fate remains unknown:
Rakan al-Ahmed, journalist and member of the Branch Council of the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria, abducted on March 31, 2024, in Girke Lage.
Marwan Hussein Liyani, youth activist and member of the Local Council of Girke Lage of the Kurdish National Council in Syria, abducted on April 1, 2024, in Girke Lage.
Ahmed Hassan Sofi, journalist and member of the Area Council of the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria, abducted on April 2, 2024, in Derik.
Hassam Dorsin, member of the Area Committee of the Syrian Kurdish People Party and a member of the Kurdish National Council in Syria, abducted on April 1, 2024, in Derik.
The Kurdish National Council condemned these intimidating practices by the PYD administration and demanded the immediate release of the hostages, reaffirming their ongoing struggle for the Kurdish cause.
It also called on the international community and human rights organizations to expose and put an end to these practices.
