Masrour Barzani on the Anniversary of the Anfal Crimes: Some Still Cling to Chauvinistic Mentality to Seize Kurdistan People's Rights
ARK News… Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, issued a statement today, Sunday, April 14, 2024, on the occasion of the notorious Anfal campaigns, emphasizing the importance of remembering the victims of this heinous crime committed by the former Iraqi regime 36 years ago, aimed at annihilating the entire Kurdish people.
The statement reads as follows:
"On this day, we commemorate a major crime that has left a deep wound in the body of the Kurdistan people—those Anfal campaigns committed by the former Iraqi regime 36 years ago through genocide and massacres, aiming to eradicate our people completely from existence.
Undoubtedly, the Anfal is a crime like no other, and it cannot be erased from our memory. We must recall it and remember its victims, making it a profound lesson for our future generations about the magnitude of sacrifices our people made to achieve their legitimate national rights.
In fulfilling its duty, the Kurdistan Regional Government is exerting maximum efforts to provide the best services to the families of the Anfal victims, befitting their status. The government also emphasizes the ethical and constitutional responsibility placed on the federal government to fairly compensate the families of the Anfal victims and all those affected by the crimes of the Ba'athist regime, providing them with just compensation to alleviate their suffering.
It is regrettable that there are still individuals and parties clinging to a chauvinistic mentality, following the same path and mindset that perpetrated the Anfal crime, in denial and seizure of the legitimate and constitutional rights of the Kurdistan people that they rightfully gained through an unparalleled journey of struggle and perseverance.
On the anniversary of the infamous Anfal campaigns, we bow in reverence and honor to all the martyrs and those affected who are eternally inscribed in our conscience.
