ARK News… A delegation from the Kurdish National Council in Syria, headed by Dr. Abdul Hakim Bashar, Vice President of the Syrian National Coalition, and composed of Ibrahim Berro, a member of the Syrian Negotiating Committee, met with the Director-General of the Office of the Ministry of Education in the Kurdistan Regional Government, and the Director-General of the Directorate of Education in the city of Erbil.
Regarding the meeting that took place, on Wednesday, 4/10/2023, Dr. Abdel Hakim Bachar, Vice President of the Syrian National Coalition, said: “Based on the directives of Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and to complete the provision of the necessary services to our students in the Kurdistan Region, we met with the Director General of the Office of the Ministry of Education in the Kurdistan Regional Government, and the General Director of the Directorate of Education in Erbil.”
Dr. Abdel Hakim Bachar added: During the two meetings, issues related to the transfer of Syrian students and the complex procedures followed, such as authenticating documents from the Syrian Foreign Ministry and delaying them, were discussed, which may waste the students’ years of academic efforts.
Dr. Abdul Hakim Bashar revealed that the Director General of the Office of the Ministry of Education in the Kurdistan Regional Government confirmed that this law is Iraqi and we are obligated to implement it, but to facilitate matters, this problem was solved by relying on correspondence via email as an initial acceptance until the legal procedures are completed.”
The Vice President of the Syrian National Coalition added: “The new instructions were circulated to all schools in Erbil Governorate, which are to adhere to the decisions of the Ministry of Education to accept all Syrian students in the school closest to their geography of residence, and to give a period to Syrian male and female teachers to amend their certificates while remaining on the job.”
Dr. Abdul Hakim Bashar confirmed that secondary schools affiliated with the Kurdistan Regional Government, which teach in the Arabic language, were directed to accept Syrian students who studied the primary stages in the Arabic language, and the need to provide textbooks for all Syrian students, just like those in the Kurdistan Region.
