More than three weeks since the kidnapping of the journalist Barzan Hussain and the arrest of Junaid Majeed
ARK News… PYD militants continue to kidnap Barzan Hussein, a media figure in the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria, and arrest Junaid Sayed Majeed, a member of the Area Council of the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria, in the town of Girke Lage in Derik, in Syrian Kurdistan.
In continuation of the policy of kidnapping and intimidation against members and activists of the Kurdish National Council and the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria, who were kidnapped by PYD militants, on August 15, 2023.
Today, September 8, 2023, twenty-four days have passed since their abduction, while their fate is still unknown.
Condemnation by the Kurdish National Council
The Kurdish National Council in Syria condemned the arrests, stressing in a statement that "these arrests come to intimidate the citizens and increase the security grip on the necks of the people to prevent any mass reactions and protests that may occur." The Council condemned in the strongest terms these intimidating arrests of journalist Barzan Hussein and activist Junaid Sayed Majeed, calling for their immediate release. He also called on all human rights organizations and international bodies to intervene and prevent these violations against citizens and activists.
For its part, the Syrian Journalists Association demanded "the immediate release of colleague Barzan Hussein, and while expressing its full solidarity with his family, it appeals at the same time to all journalists, institutions, media bodies, and human rights organizations in northeastern Syria in particular and in general to exert pressure for his release, and to preserve freedom of the press." protect all journalists.
The Kurdistan Writers Union of Syria, the General Union of Kurdish Writers and Journalists, and a group of Kurdish and Syrian organizations called on the PYD administration to immediately release them.
The journalist, Barzan Hussein Liyani, was previously kidnapped by PYD militants more than once.
