Amnesty International calls on the Syrian regime to put an immediate end to enforced disappearances
ARK News… In a statement, in parallel with the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearance, Amnesty International called on the Syrian regime to put an "immediate" end to enforced disappearances, arbitrary arrests, acts of torture, and extrajudicial executions.
The organization stressed the need for the regime to inform the families of the fate of all detainees, their whereabouts and their legal status, and stressed the need to facilitate ways for Syrian families to be reunited, including informing the families of the coordinates of the mass grave sites, and handing over the remains of their children to be able to bury them properly.
It demanded that independent international monitors, such as the UN-mandated Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, be given access to all persons deprived of their liberty, and allowed to investigate conditions inside all detention facilities.
