ARK News… Owners of gold shops in al-Furqan neighborhood in Aleppo closed their shops about a week ago after the al-Khatib security branch of the Syrian regime arrested more than 10 goldsmiths in the neighborhood, which is a commercial and vital center for the city, for reasons related to dealing in dollars and their refusal to pay royalties to members of the branch affiliated with the State Security Apparatus.

Syrian media sources published, "The patrols of Al-Khatib branch raided gold shops several times, under the pretext that goldsmiths deal in dollars and the impact of this on the depreciation of the exchange rate of the lira." As the lira recorded collapses in its value during the past days, reaching 14 thousand pounds per US dollar.

The sources stated that the owners of goldsmiths' shops fear the continuation of the raids with the intent of obtaining royalties, which will expose them to great losses amid the lack of sales movement and the rise in gold prices to unprecedented levels due to the collapse of the lira against the dollar.
