ARK News… The Syrian National Coalition said that it is following with great sorrow the developments related to the sinking of a boat carrying dozens of Syrian refugees and others near the Greek coast, which led to many drowning victims and the loss of many asylum seekers, including a large number of Syrians.

In a statement issued, on Friday, June 16, 2023, the National Coalition offered its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the Syrian people for this tragedy and stressed that the Assad regime bears full responsibility for the continuation of migration and the flow of waves of asylum, due to its repressive approach and the continuous human rights violations it commits against the Syrian people. And the continued detention and torture in his prisons.

The National Coalition pointed out that the risks that the Syrian people expose themselves to by constantly seeking asylum reflect the impossibility of living under the rule of the Assad regime and its criminal approach and the sectarian militias loyal to it, and confirm the falsehood of the regime's claim that the areas under its control have become safe.

The National Coalition expressed its categorical refusal to return the Syrian refugees before achieving a political transition in Syria in accordance with international resolutions, especially Resolution 2254.

The National Coalition stressed that the Syrians have no choice but to flee from killing or arrest, which they deem inevitable when they are forced to return to the terrorist Assad regime and its repressive security services, without a safe and neutral environment that guarantees a voluntary and dignified return.
