ARK News… The Federal Statistical Office in Germany said that Syrians are at the forefront of obtaining German citizenship, announcing that more than 48,000 Syrian refugees obtained German citizenship in the past year 2022, out of about 168,000 people belonging to 171 nationalities.

The office stated that the number of people obtaining German citizenship increased by about 37,000 people, or 28 percent, compared to 2021, noting that such a large number of naturalizations had not been recorded within one year since 2002.

The office indicated that the number of Syrians who obtained citizenship last year more than doubled the number in 2021, and seven times what it was in 2020, pointing out that males represent two-thirds of the Syrians naturalized, according to the German News Agency.

It pointed out that the Syrians who obtained citizenship had stayed in Germany for a period ranging between 4 to 6 years on average, before obtaining German citizenship, and indicated that the Syrians are increasingly meeting the requirements for naturalization, most notably sufficient language skills, a sufficient source of income, and spending a period of no less than about eight years in Germany.
