Masrour Barzani is discussing with a German government delegation the strengthening of Erbil-Berlin relations

Today, Wednesday, May 3, 2023, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, received a German delegation that included the Deputy Minister of State for Cooperation and Development, Jochen Flaspart, and the Deputy Minister of State for Financial Affairs, Werner Katzer.

In the meeting, which was attended by the German ambassador to Iraq and the German Consul General in Erbil, ways to strengthen relations between Germany and the Kurdistan Region were discussed, as well as a discussion of resolving contentious issues between the region and the federal government.

The Prime Minister expressed his thanks and appreciation to Germany for the support it provides to the Kurdistan Region, especially in confronting ISIS terrorists and recognizing the genocide to which the Yezidis were subjected. He also renewed the desire of the Kurdistan Regional Government to improve the horizons of relations with Germany in all fields.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of holding the Kurdistan Parliament elections on time this year.

The meeting also shed light on the reforms implemented by the ninth ministerial formation, especially with regard to the digitization of public services, the situation in the camps for the displaced and refugees, providing the appropriate ground for their voluntary return to their homes, and the importance of implementing the Shingal Agreement (Sinjar), in addition to addressing the negative effects caused by climate change.
