ARK News… The US representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield, announced on Tuesday evening that her country supports the recommendation of the Secretary-General to establish a new stand-alone entity to clarify the fate and whereabouts of the missing and detained Syrians.

In her speech during a meeting of the General Assembly on the situation of human rights in Syria, she said that "although there are many United Nations entities that focus on Syria currently, there is a large gap when it comes to the issue of detained and missing persons, which makes the establishment of an independent entity It is very important that a new one that can work with all actors in the United Nations, Member States, and international organizations, while maintaining its purely humanitarian character and focus on survivors and their families.

Greenfield called on all parties to the conflict to "release all those unjustly detained and return the remains of those who died to their families," stressing that this is "a humanitarian duty and that the United States will never stop pressing for the release of all arbitrarily detained persons in Syria."
