ARK News… The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, launched an appeal to support the areas of northwestern Syria affected by the earthquake, calling on the international community to provide assistance and support for those affected.

He said during a press conference at the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey, following a visit he made, accompanied by the United Nations Deputy Regional Humanitarian Coordinator David Cardin, to hospitals and shelters in Idlib, northwestern Syria, that the people living in northwestern Syria need the assistance of the international community.

He stressed that the difficult conditions that people live in due to the war multiplied after the earthquake, and called on the international community and governments to make "maximum efforts to help those who suffer from poverty and deprivation."

A devastating earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria on February 6, killing tens of thousands of civilians and displacing hundreds of thousands.
